Thomas Feldmann, 1937 – 2020

Thomas F. Feldmann entered into God’s embrace on December 22, 2020. He was 83 years old.

Thomas was born on January 23, 1937, in Breda, the youngest child of Joseph and May Feldmann. He worked beside his father and brothers, learning the farming business from a young age.

Thomas attended St. Bernard Elementary School and High School. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a degree in ag business and marketing management.

In 1957, Thomas married Ruth M. Knobbe, beginning 63 years of cherished companionship and devotion. He and Ruth lived in Breda and Ames, and settled in Jefferson. Together they raised seven children and delight in their 23 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Thomas worked at West Central Cooperative for 36 years. During his time there, the cooperative grew and prospered, benefitting many farmers in western Iowa.

Faith and family were the foundation of Thomas’ life. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he served as lector and Eucharistic minister, and made sure that his children sat in the front row.

Thomas and Ruth took pride in attending the academic, musical, theatrical, and sports events of their children, and later, his grandchildren.

In his retirement, Thomas took up woodworking. Pieces of his handicraft remain as treasures in the homes of his children and grandchildren.

Thomas was the strength and steadfast center of his close-knit family. They will forever hold his wisdom and character close in their hearts.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and May Feldmann; infant son Thomas Marcell; his siblings  Wayne, Robert, Alan, Ruth, and Joan.  He is survived by his wife Ruth Feldmann of Jefferson; his children Keith (Alice) Feldmann of North Liberty, Ann (Connie Simpson) Feldmann of Mesa, AZ, Kenneth (Vicki) Feldmann of Mount Pleasant, Dennis (Holly) Feldmann of Manson, Donald (Jean) Feldmann of Jefferson, Katherine (Alan) Neese of Grand Junction, and Steven (Lisa) Feldmann of Iowa City; 23 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
